An intense burst of redevelopment has turned downtown Fort Lauderdale, long overshadowed by resurgent city centers in Miami and West Palm Beach, into South Florida’s latest boomtown, with a spate of residential and commercial projects aimed at walk-everywhere urbanism and a younger, hipper demographic than has been the city’s norm.
